question 30 ~ oh I luv the rainy nights

Do you like rain storms?  Do you have any memories connected with rain or storms?

I love rain.  It is soothing, IF it is just rain.. a light thunder. I sleep best when there is a NICE soft rain storm. However, when it gets bad... heavy thunder, lightning, tornados, hail.  I get freaked.  I was never like this. Well, I've always been afraid of tornados.  I've been in the middle of too many of them to count.  I've had some damage to trees, cars and other yard stuff, but never my home (knocking on wood as tornado season is here) I was never afraid of lightning...  Until last year.  When my apartment building was hit by lightning.  It was a nice day when all of a sudden the sky got dark and the rest of the night was full of hail, heavy winds, and lots of lightning.  We heard this loud BOOM. Then lost all power.  To make a long story short, I lost everything.  Three TV's, two cordless phones, two stereo systems, my computer, my DSL modem, two VCR's, my microwave (was gone but it now takes 3 1/2 minutes to heat a cup of coffee) The one TV does work now but the bottom 1/4 of the picture is green. The outlet where the computer was plugged in was black,  to think of what could have happen sends shivers down my spine.  I have an old borrowed computer that I unplug the second it begins to rain, along with anything else in electrical.  Lightning can do so much damage.  I'm still not recovered, but we lived.

I DO have some good memories of just rain storms though... out dancing in the rain.  Running around splashing in puddles.  Always fun.  As long as I don't see lightning.

I love rain storms.  The light gentle ones make for good sleeping or reflecting.  Even the severe ones are good for a little excitement.  I remember being afraid of them as a child and my Papaw telling me "its just the angels bowling up in heaven".  Since overcoming the fear, I really like to watch the cloud patterns during a severe storm.  LOL - I should have been a weather watcher!  I have seen a tornado twice in my lifetime.  One was a waterspout over Lake Erie.  The other was on my grandparent's farm in Indiana.  The latter one was far into the distance and we were all shuffled down into the potato cellar.  Sheila

I love the rain!  Even now, so long as I've not any place to go, I will step outside and stand in it.  Throw in some thunder and lightning, light a fire, steep some tea and I'm happy as a clam!  Raindrops on a tin roof is my lullabye.

i love rainstorms- there is no better way to fall asleep listening to the rain on the roof. my favorite thing to do in the summer is sit on my front porch in my rocking chair and watch a good thunderstorm come up- the lightening, thunder wind - especially if it has been hot- a nice glass of iced tea and a good summer storm- there is nothing better.

I love listening to the rain, sleeping while it's raining..comtemplating life while watching the rain, and looking at how everything looks greener, cleaner and cripser after a light rain. I just don't enjoy DRIVING in the rain since people all of a sudden drive idiotic when it rains... well more so than usual.  Thunderstorms are enjoyable when I am home but NOT at work because if the power even flickers some of our instruments and computers shut down.

I love to hear the rain at night, when I was little we had a house with a tin roof, and the rainfall was very soothing.

I love storms. I love the sound of rain, the clash of thunder and the fireworks caused by lightning. Although tenting during a storm brings it a little too close to home. I have two memories of tent camping during storms. The first, my husband and I set up camp in Mississippi Palisades State Park in northwestern Illinois. We made it to the campground late at night, and with just enough time to put up the tent and crash for the night. I remember waking up because the thunder was so loud. It was terrifying. I thought about waking Bill up and moving to the car. We didn't though. We braved it. The next morning we heard about a couple of guys that set up camp in a dry river bed. Their tent and equipment were washed away during the night. The second time, we brought our boys camping. Ed was three and Jon was one. We went to the Wisconsin State Fair, and camped in Kettle Morraine State Park. It was really, really pretty. Only it started to rain, and didn't stop for three days. I promised the boys semores and hot chocolate. Only the rain wouldn't let us start a fire let along the camp stove. We finally packed up after day two. Somehow, though, someone left the top of the dish soap. It was like something out of a three Stooges movie. I'd flop on the tent trying to get the air out of it, and bubbles flew up around me. We'd pack something and we'd get bubbles. And somehow I lost my wedding ring. It just slipped off my finger. I found it later in a box of wet clothing. By the time we got home, we heard that Milwaukee Stadium was flooded.

I find rain storms soothing, as long as I am at home and not out driving. Living on the Carolina coast, I pray that rainstroms are all we get and no hurricanes! Last summer we were lucky because hurricane Charlie was just a tropical storm by the time it got here. My whole family napped through the entire storm.

I luv them.  There is something peaceful and cleansing to me about a good rain storm.  I am not fond of course of the tornados, hail, flooding, etc but sometimes you take the good with the bad and storms just calm me in such a weird way, I guess you could say I was the "eye" of the storm, lol, I know that one bombed.  Nonetheless I have a "farm style" house which is basically a stupid way of calling a plain 2 story something other than plain but my favorite part of the house is the porch, it was poured using concrete that holds the little rock pebbles, ya know and it wraps from one side of the house to the other and it is the nicest place to be during a storm, unless there are high winds, lol because you don't get wet and you can just sit and watch it all happen.  Very calming
