Question 66 ~ Holiday

What is your favorite holiday and how do you celebrate it?

PreviewWhen this subject comes up (and oddly enough it does very often)  most people say Christmas.  Not for me Christmas has become too commercialized and lost the true meaning... it is also causing me major stress, beginning around Oct.  Although I love Christmas and the decorating, having to buy presents for everyone and their mailman is a hardship.... I love giving, but the cost is crazy.  So I stress.
Having said that my favorite holiday is Halloween!  Going door to door and getting chocolate, come on what can be better then that!  hehe.  I love dressing up and just being whatever I want for the day.  It's the day I can wear odd things and no one looks twice (even if it's one of my everyday outfits!) I love the smell of pumpkins, I love the feel of the goo in the pumpkins when you're cleaning them.. Yeah, I have been told I'm odd.  I like my kids and I to dress up in themes.  One year my son was a vampire and everyone else were his victims.. We all made ourselves look half dead and had bite marks on our necks.  I was a bitten prom queen.  We have a blast.  Staying out late, running across yards, talking to people we hardly know, having strangers take our pictures.
Then coming home and playing games and eating pizza.  I usually make sloppy Joe's or hot-dogs before we go out.. but we are always hungry when we get back and order pizza.
It's just a holiday where I can have fun with the kids and not have all the stress of making it right.  If Halloween goes wrong... well.. then we can patch it up!  There is no patching up the other holidays around my mother!!

Mine would have to be Easter.  I love not only the candy but the colors of the holiday and the meaning of everything being new again.  ~ Sheila

I would have to say that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.  I love what it stands for and I love turkey dinner!  I often make another turkey dinner somewhere around March cuz I love it so.  When I was growing up we always went to our "adopted" aunt and uncle's.  It was a sit down dinner with fine china an crystal and no matter how many people came everyone had a place to sit at a table.  Now, here in the South with my husband's family it is a buffet style with odd things like potato salad and baked beans.  No one eats at a table you find a spare chair or floor space.  It is every man or woman for yourself.  I say I am used to it, but there is no getting used to it.  Traci

My favorite is the Fourth of July. We have the usual big parade here and the fireworks display at the local high school. I love having picnics and the like. My next favorite is Thanksgiving. It means family more than anything else. I think I would enjoy it even if we had to share a stack of White Castle Hamburgers rather than a homemade turkey.

I love Christmas!  It's true that is has become commercialized and stressful, but if I dig deep enough, the true meaning of Christmas is still there.  I love going to church and hearing about the birth of Jesus and watching the kid's Christmas plays.  I love exchanging gifts with my friends because it's just so much fun to give to those you love.  I love the feel of Christmas and the excitement of "Santa Claus" and how they track him on the radio.  It's a beautiful time of year!

My favorite holiday would be a tie between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I just love that whole time of year - from the end of the "back to school" sales to the end of the year.

On Thanksgiving the house is filled with activity and my mother starts early in the morning and does NOT want to be disturbed!

I'm gonna have to go with the majority and say Christmas for obvious reason to myself and that's that it is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus and though the holiday has become more about getting and giving and Santa Claus we try and keep it about the real reason, Jesus. Plus I enjoy taking them out to see the lights, etc. and you know in Louisiana we do some lights, lol.  Brandy

Actually I don't have a favorite holiday. As though I do love Christmas time. I love all the pretty decorations and etc......

But New Years Eve is the best with all the cool parties...and also the end of a long year and the chance to start over with a new one...

However I am new to journal jar but I will not be posting my answers in my journal, but you are all welcome to check it out...

Hi Promise~I like Halloween too, but I think my fav is still Christmas. This year I am back in the snow for the first time in 30 yrs. so it might even be a white one. Of course it has gotten too comercialized, but you and I know it's Jesus's birthday...and a few others remember that too ;-) I posted an entry on college; this is all I'll write for holiday. Sassy
