Question 50 ~ Courtship

Tell a courtship story about your parents.  How did they meet?

Too bad on this question. My mother does not like to talk about my father. I have no idea how they met, nor have I ever heard a story (other then the bad, very bad stuff). So I can't answer this question. I will investigate this if my mother is in a good mood, and maybe add to this entry.  However, I am looking forward to hearing your stories.

Mom was a waitress.  Dad was a Marine on recruiting duty who ate at the restaurant every day.  Mom said he was arrogant (he refused to talk to this one kid about enlisting because he was on his lunch break) and kept to himself, always eating alone.  But, if I'm not mistaken, something happened and mom didn't have a ride home after work and dad suddenly offered her a ride home (this was back in the days when you could trust most people).  I guess this started a habit and after only two weeks dad said he loved her and wanted to get married.  He also gave her flowers regularly.  They had a long engagement and got married in a civil ceremony.  July will mark 40 years of marriage. :o)  Sheila  PS  mom still refers to him as her "little arrogant Marine".

My mom being the party hound she was decided to take a job bartending at some little hole in the wall bar, which was the same hole in the wall that my dad would go to when he got off of work to have his two beers, the beers were .75 and he would leave her a .50 cent tip on each beer then he would leave and this went on for a while and eventually they started dating, moved in together with her two sons from her first marriage.

my parents- they only dated each other for a few months in high school, then my dad moved away- he tried to break up with her just before he moved, but the night he went to tell her he wanted to end it, he asked her to "go steady". he had no money, came from a rough family- so he used to hitchhike about 90 miles to her little town. he couldnt afford to take her anywhere too nice, so they ate bologna sandwiches at my grandparents house.  he went into the air force and they corresponded- they fell in love thru their letters. my mom said that you really get to know someone best thru their written words, because they can be free to be their true selves- no put-up fronts. they had their rough moments in their younger years, but they are truly have a deep connected love and are best friends now and have been married nearly 40 yrs.

Well, my mom and dad met at a movie theatre, they both went alone! lol. Maybe that's why I am an aspiring actress?? lol. Funny, she told him her name was Susan (which is NOT her name, it is Theresa) and for the longest time, he believed it. So when they had me, They gave me the name Susan as well (along with Kandi...lol).

I'm new to the Journal Jar...sort of. I was given the link a couple of months ago and loved it right away. I'm a real procrastinator though so I'm just now finally making my first entry but it won't be my last. I'm going to have to do the one about winning (and losing). For now here is a link to my journal and my first Journal Jar entry.

My mom lived in the city, my dad lived in the country. But all the kids walked home from the one room school house on the same road, cause it was on the other side of town. As my mom walked over the train tracks, her dress got caught on it and tore up the side. My dad just happened to have a safety pin in his pocket.
He offered it to her to pin her dress. They fell in love and were married for 38 years untill he died in 1978.

My mom and dad met on a blind date.  They went to different highschools growing up and were set up by their best friends who were dating at the time.  They dated, got married, had four children, seven grandchildren (so far) and have been happily married for 37 years.  God love them.

Yet another question that makes me realize how little I know about my parents.
I don't have an answer today.
