question 46 ~ Reading

Do you have a favorite Magazine?  What do you learn from it?  Why do you like it?

That's my favorite magazine.  I probably learn much more from reading Newsweek and the newspaper about current events, but I love music.  So Rolling Stone is my favorite magazine.  It's not a gossip magazine. It gives you information on bands just starting out, information on CD's being released.  Interviews with artists. I've learned about artists I probably never would have listened to if I hadn't read about them in that magazine.  For an entertainment magazine I'd have to say it's the best.  It has other entertainment information in there, things on movies and books too.
I would say because I'm so into music I like that sort of thing.
I like cooking magazines for the recipes but I don't subscribe to them.

My favorite magazines are National Geographic, Discovery, Newsweek, Writers' Digest, and Smithsonian. I love Discovery because I don't know very much about science, and this gives me a good overview of what I should learn about. Newsweek is just another way of keeping up with the news. The Smithsonian has a lot of articles about unusual subjects. Discovery, National Geographic, and Smithsonian all have articles about ancient cultures, which absolutely facincates me, or about exinct animals. Of course I read Writers' Digest because of my need to write. It gives me ideas, tutors me on style, and introduces me to markets I haven't explored yet.

LOL - when I was young and fresh out of high school, I wanted to become a journalist but not just any journalist - I wanted to write for ROLLING STONE!  LOL!  These days, I read, with no regularity:  Quick Quilts and Writer's Digest.  Occasionally, my mother-in-law sends me her "Woman's World" when she is done with them, and its not a bad magazine but every month its a new diet.  (If any of them really worked, why would we need a new one every month???).  I'm not into the beauty and fashion stuff but I like the health articles and the inspirational stories.  I also like to read Reader's Digest and "PC World" (I'm such a computer GEEK!).  Sheila

Ya know, I wish I could say some thought provoking, knowledge baring magazine but the truth is that would be a lie, lol.  I read whatever trash, filth gossip rag I can get my hands on, i.e. In Touch, US Weekly, People, etc.  Now at least with People they do provide reviews of the newest books, cds, movies, etc so it isn't total brain rot but the others well lets just say I didn't gain any IQ points for reading them, lol.  I know most of the trash in them is also made up to sell the piece of poo mag but it is entertainment for me when I need it and when I need it to be easy entertainment, lol.  Brandy

i dont get any magazine subscriptions, so i really dont have any favorites, but i like to look at the taste of home magazine recipes, i copied a front porch addition from better homes and gardens- it turned out awesome!! also when my kids were smaller i used to get the family magazine- it had great ideas about fun things to do with kids, from recipes, to trips, to crafts, clothes and even halloween costumes. i guess id much rather pick up a book instead.
