Discribe your first job. What did it pay? What were your duties? What was your boss like?
My first job was at McDonalds. It was through the school work program so I worked half days and went to school half days. I started just making french fries ... that was so boring! Then after a couple of weeks was trained in on the window. I eventually ended up permanently working the drive thru. I don't even know my exact pay. It was minimum wage, I think it was 4 or 5 something an hour. After I quit school, I started working full days, and went to night school to get my GED. I had two bosses that were complete opposites. One was friendly, outgoing, understanding, and very funny. He seemed to care about his employees. The other was a complete jerk. He yelled at everyone about everything, even things that were HIS fault. He was overly demanding.
I ended up getting fired by the creepy boss because there was money missing out of the drawer, although three people worked that drawer because I had left early that day. He called me into his office and told me they were short $27. He told me it was coming out of my pay. Me being me, questioned whether he was going to take part of it out of the other people's check. He said "I know those two they aren't theives" Well I got mad because to me he was calling me one. So of coarse I speak before thinking, and say "Listen you SOB, if I was gonna steal from you I'd take more then 27 bucks" DUMB! He then fired me on the spot.

You didn't deserve to be fired, but it's good that you stood up for yourself...I bet he was the one taking money out, and needed a scapegoat for it.
Hmm, I guess my first job was working at LSU as a high school student in the library. I, along with other teenagers, inserted metal detector theft strips within the bindings of the books in preparation of an anti-theft alarm system that seems to be common place in libraries all over now. It was a summer job, minimum wage but it was fun working side by side with other kids, including some cute boys. My mom worked at LSU at the time and helped me get the job. One of my coworkers got MONO...I didn't date the guy, much less kiss him, but I eventually came down with it a couple of months later. That summer job was before I went into the 11th grade. I still have pictures somewhere that the library took of us because we were sort of a part of history for the library...installing anti-theft devices, a wave of the future!...BTW, that was 1979.
My first job was Burger Chef!!! I think it started out as $2.80/hr. I was 15. The boss was an a-hole who tried hitting on me but because I wouldn't go out with him, he locked me out in the dining room and told me to clean the salad bar. He wouldn't even let me in the back to get fresh cleaning water. I quit on the spot. 2 of my friends soon followed. LOL! I heard later on that this boss was arrested for dealing coke of a different kind!!!! Sheila PS - liking the new journal!
ok count me in, but not starting a new journal just adding into the one I have .Diane
I love this sweetie! I started a journal for this as well!!!

In 1973, I got a job with the G.C. Murphy Co. in South Charleston, WV. I was payed 1.75 an hour, and ran the register. I worked mostly with old ladies who had been there for years and years. But, it was fun, sorta, and sorta boring. My boss was a true gentleman, and treated like a king. He was very softspoken, and treated us all with great respect.
arghhhhhhhh , those rash responses ! i prolly would have done the same thing , but now i have time to reflect , and the best option would have been to go to your other supervisor and explain the situation !
live and learn
My first job was after school part-time in an egg factory, i know it sounds glamorous but it actually wasn`t ha ha! In fact someone who worked in an egg factory may have come up with the old saying" this sucks eggs". As for the boss he was an idiot, when i quit there he told me i`d be back, cuz after all at 17, i clearly had seen enough to know that was the vocational choice for me.....NOT, he probably still works there, and still considers it his personal empire!
I love this idea Promise!!! Penny http://journals.aol.com/schnozbeary/FreshCupMoveDown
YAY! I found you at Heather's Journal... I LOVE this idea! I'm playing along!
My first job was as Wendy's when I was fifteen. It lasted about three months until I got a job at Express...lol! My boss at Wendy's was mean... reverse discrimination best describes how she treated me. I can't remember the minimum wage but I think it was $4 something. I was the fry cook.

I found you through Sharon`s journal . I will enjoy answering the questions too !
My first job was in a shoe shop here in the UK. I was just an assistant and only 15yrs, the legal age to finish school back in 1967. I was only earning £4.50p which is about $8 by todays standards. I hated every minute of it and it wasn`t helped by a totally stressed-out boss who was always shouting at me in front of customers. I stayed for 6months and left when I couldn`t stand working there any more. I then went on to work in an office and started earning much better money too. :-) Sandra x

Here is my first complete answer. :-)
Hey, I just came across this journal and it looks like fun! So here goes... My first job was in a fast food restaurant, Hardee's, back in the summer of 1987. I was 15. Because I was not yet 16, I only made $3.85 an hour. (Minimum wage was $4.35 back then I think.) I worked the front register, taking customers' orders and putting the food on the trays. I worked the evning shift, doing the closing duties, which meant I usually didn't get off work til midnight or sometimes later. (The managers didn't seem to care that it was against the law for minors under 16 to work after 11pm.) When the summer came to a close and it was time for me to go back to school, they kept scheduling me to work even though I had given my two weeks notice several weeks before school started. I actually had nightmares about not being able to quit that job!

My 1st job was at 14. I guess back then you could start work really young. It was at a bakery in a local food court. The ironic thing was my boss was just like my dad. He yelled, was insulting, expected perfection and scared the hell out of me. While I was there I met a girl who showed me how to get a fake ID and party at will. In retrospect probably not the best thing for a girl like me. I went to work every day at 5 am. One day they were just closed. No notice, no last paycheck, nothing. I had forgotten about it until I came across this. Funny how things shape one's life.
MY FIRST JOB WAS IN A NIGHT CLUB BEING A WAITRESS AT 18. THEY HAS JUST CHANGED THE LEGAL AGE IN TN. FROM 21 TO 18. I FELL IN LOVE WITH MY BOSS AT FIRST SIGHT AND MARRIED HIM 13 YRS LATER AND WE WERE MARRIED 17 YRS. I'M ALSO DOING A PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT #23 ON WHAT IS SPECIAL TO ME AND WHY COME ON OVER AND PLAY AS WELL AS SEE MY MOST SPECIAL THING TO ME
My first real job was as a waitress in Zum Zum's. They were supposed to sell brachtwurst and knockwurst and all of the wursts, but they didn't. I worked there for six years.
My first job was at Saturday's Family Hair Care. I was 14 (not old enough legally to work so lucky me got paid cash). I actually made 5.00 an hour and back then that was a lot, not to mention the perks I had such as free hair cuts, colors, products. It was the most perfect job for a freshman girly, girly in high school. I worked there for a year and then sadly sniff, sniff, I had to leave because they wanted me to change shops and I didn't want to go to the other one, so I quit.
Here you go; my first entry.

Hi Promise,
I just came across your journal jar, and it sounds fun and interesting, so I am going to join in and give it try, altought i have a bit of catching up to do, lol.
My fisrst job was a telemarketing job I think i was 14 or 15, it paid $5.00 and hour and we had to make calls to people and try and sell magazine subscriptions. We would get the names from cards people filled out thinking they were going to win a free ski weekend at a mountain resort, so beware everyone, don't fill out the cards on display at stores, saying you will win a free trip or something, its just a catch as usual, nothing is for free. Well I ended up getting fired, because you are able to make personal calls when you are on break but you have to be off by the time break is over, and the call i was on with my girlfriend seeing what the plans were for after work and the supervisor cut in on the call and i got called to her office and oh well you know the policy, i was so upset and told my mom and dad and they laughed at me and said dont worry about it. I was so relieved, then I jsut enjoyed the rest of the summer!
this will be fun.
